ARTIST’S NOTE:
With this piece, I aimed to capture the mystique of cocktail hour. That time of early evening when work is done for the day and the house is filled with relaxing, downbeat music before dinner is ready. Using colored pencils in hues of caramel, cinnamon, tawny, and citrus orange to render the drink, as well as ice blue for the decanter and tumbler, I wanted to evoke the translucent gold of a fine bourbon, rye or rum – but without the hangovers that so often come with them.
